CAM Technologies is looking for a Controls Engineer with at least 2 years of experience and a desire to solve hands-on mechanical challenges. This role is a key member of our engineering team and supports the business through the development, design, installation and support of our CAMLink™ suite of products through PLC-based automation.

This role is equal parts field work (traveling to sites, commissioning systems, interacting with customers), and office work (controls design, PLC & HMI programming).  Our customers cover the full spectrum of industrial settings, and we work where the factories are so travel is a requirement. A hybrid work environment is encouraged when not traveling.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of CAMLink™ Automation Systems at customer facilities
  • Provides CAMLink™ product support both on-site at customer sites and remotely
  • Develops and designs control system architecture including component selection and overall control panel design
  • Utilizes AutoCAD for the development of drawing schematics, diagrams and engineering documents
  • Understands and applies, in practice, manufacturer data sheets, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings
  • Assists with vendor outreach and product research related to specific material and instrument applications
  • Designs, configures, and implements PLCs and HMIs via programming in Allen Bradley Ladder Logic. Note, some projects might include programming with VBA, .NET, SQL, and Java
  • Engineers and implements a variety of wired, wireless, and fiber optic networking systems using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, BACNet, Profibus, etc.)
  • Creates and maintains engineering documents, specifications, and manuals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Rockwell Automation products
  • Flexible, practical, and objective approach to solving problems with strong, independent critical thinking skills
  • Ability to determine the best technical approach based on project, customer, and budget requirements
  • Ability to interpret and provide input on electrical drawings, P&ID diagrams, process flowcharts, etc.
  • Familiarity with thermodynamic principles of air
  • Familiarity with DC control circuits
  • Experience with use of PID loops for process control
  • Programming experience (even recreational) is a plus
  • Knowledge of VPNs and virtualization technology is a plus
  • Organized, conscientious, and adaptable in work execution
  • Perceptive and understanding in working with customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, capable of working in a team environment or individually

Requirements

  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, computer science, or computer engineering
    • 2+ years of experience directly related to industrial automation and controls (e.g. PLCs)
    • 2+ years of experience directly related to working with and troubleshooting complex electrical circuits (e.g. avionics technician or similar)
    • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing or industry in an engineering-type role
    • 2+ years of experience designing or assessing industrial compressed air systems
  • Ability and desire(!) to travel up to 60%
  • US Citizenship
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must pass drug screening and background check
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
